writing shorts and features with the minimum specifics . How did you do that?

First of all, I admire writers who can keep it short and straight to the point when writing their scripts, be they shorts or features. Imagine say... you have to use as few as two locations and as many as six characters, maximum. To write a short, yes, it's way too simple - Hey, not blowing any trumpet :) I think you would find that it is too - just smile at that and skip that part. Well! to do a feature with such specifics is hard. It might be way too easy for you and my question is how? How do you go about writing 90-120max ? Using just six people darting in between two locations and everything's happening and it just comes out great! I can do it but if I know how I would. I mean, thinking of how to keep scene actions/descriptions short and precise and concise... all the way down to 90 or 120... How can I do that please?

These are storycraft questions, Conrad. There's the art of ScreenWriting and the Art of StoryCraft. We must master both. If we know storycraft like a pro, we control every page. Whether it's one page or a 120 pages. I wouldn't sleep on shorts, my friend. I believe it's today's business card for filmmakers. Have a great day!

Here's a link to one of the latest shorts I'm involved with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phSz2idWtnI

Shawn, that's wonderful and most helpful. On it :)

Shawn... Cool, too too cool my friend. I love it. Man, I wish I was like you like... since yesterday ago. Coolose! bro. I suggest everyone here start clicking and seeing what I'm talking about - growing in the business. Congrats man!

I've written a few features as well, my man. But I don't have the cash flow to create the features. I also don't have the time, anymore, to write anything I'm not shooting, and I can shoot my shorts with just a few Gs.

Ken Kiambi

It's really cool. Good one.

Cindy Myskiw

I just wrote my first script and I have no idea if it is considered a short or a feature.

Conrad Ekeke

Cindy, to the best of my knowledge on shorts and features, I think we should be limiting ourselves to the number of pages. Some people consider 70 pages and above as features. However, I'm not sure if 69 pages of a script is viewed as a short. Most producers look at 30 pages max... That's perhaps even too much for them to read but if I should consider it on an average, we might fall around there. So, logically speaking, anything between 30-69 might be termed a feature depending on its content and maybe props etc. So far it is based on personal judgement at that stage - based on my knowledge of the two (shorts and features). Am I right somebody???

Read and go to plays. Theater by its very nature is limited to stories with few locations and characters. Ever seen "The Breakfast Club"? If not, see it. Watch "Rear Window" and "Rope".

Conrad Ekeke

That's great too Marcus. Thanks :)
