How do folks indicate that music should go between a series of scenes? I've written a sort of "pseudo montage," where a sequence of short build-up scenes works similarly to a montage, but each scene is a half-page long or so, with dialogue, so it's not a standard montage. Music would weave it all together nicely. Would people leave the music to the director, with no script cue? Or would a written suggestion be reasonable?

It is generally recommended to leave any music/song references out of a spec script. That isn't the writers call, and obtaining the rights to have a specific song in a movie can be spendy. So no, don't put that in.

If you describe the series of scenes as playing as a montage, that in itself implies music will go under the montage. We've all seen how montages are cut together.
Thanks! Now, it's not a formal montage, so it doesn't say "montage." It's a series of scenes that function like a montage.

Thanks, Dan, everyone. I'll probably leave the music cue out.
I agree with Dan. I don't know what you're describing. I (wrongly) assumed it was a montage.
Thanks, Regina. It's like a montage, but longer. Your tips are very helpful.
