Since closed captioning is a regulatory requirement and needed for broadcast, VOD and web, I wanted to know who is tasked with getting the closed captioning done in the production of a: 1. Independent Documentary/Film 2. TV Series 3. Studio productions As responsibilities shift from a producer of an indie to a producer for a studio film. Who is the person in charge on decision for these. Is it mostly decided by the Producer, production manager or post production supervisor?
Mr Nelson, I wish I had known that you were reading scripts and log lines. It would have been interesting to find out what your opinions where of one of my scripts. I certainly would have been educational for me. being in my 70's and writing about my career as a Deep operative was a lot of fun. With 10 books published, two Movie scripts done and one TV show ready to go , your opinion would have been very beneficial. If you ever do that again, please let me know. I would love your opinion (input) of my (work) fun, thanks, Ernie Lijoi Sr
At the studio level, it's handled in post. You might get a precise answers if you post the question in the Post section of the Lounge.
Thanks Regina. That's what I thought. The bigger the canvas, the responsibility keeps shifting.
Hi Khurram, here's an idea - call some Closed Captioning vendors and ask them who typically hires them on. I've worked for a studio, and we creatives never had to worry about CC, but you're right - there's got to be someone accountable for CC compliance! I never considered it! Creatives sometimes get involved with subtitles (e.g. http://www.slashfilm.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-chinese-subtitles/), but to my knowledge, not with CC.
