Hey, my name is Diogo but people often call me "Jibs". I'm a film student from Portugal. Since I was a kid that I wrote texts, and comics for fun (my drawings weren't and are not great), I loved to tell stories. I would grab my toys and make fake movies and video games. In my first years of school, I came by a book called "Captain Underpants", wich followed a couple of kids that sold comic books to their friends and one day, due to hypnosis, one of the characters they created came to life. I decided to do the same thing, I would make comics during boring classes and show them to my colleagues, and to my surprise they liked it a lot, and started requesting more of it. I made series of comics for me and my classmates all the way till the end of high-school. I wasn't in a normal High-school, I was in a Public Art school and that's where I started learning more about writing stories. In the final years, due to an excess of work I stopped making comics. One year after high-school I entered in a Portuguese University to continue to study more deeply the art of cinema. This is still where I am. It's a very demanding course, and my creative writing got restricted to obrigatory exercises only. In the second year of the course I began a relationship with a girl that I knew from the Art School, she is a very good illustrator and had a delicious comic book style drawing that I love. We are now workin on a comic book series called "Two of a Kind". I'll post an image from the comic below. Despite most of the course, I learned and did some cool things. I wrote a few scripts, made a few movies even did a pilot for a retro/neon sci-fi series called "Elegia". I got familiar with lightning, editing, design, directing and marketing, but my main goal is whithout a doubt to write, to learn more about writing and to live my life telling stories in all sorts of mediums. I even took a online course about videogames, because that's one of the mediums I want to explore and work in. I want not only to be able to tell good stories, I want to be able to tell good stories in all possible mediums (this year I also took a workshop in Virtual Reality filmmaking). I want to be able to join any project as a writer and succeed. Ok, this text is way too long, and congrats if you've made it here. I'm looking forward to my time here in Stage 32, and I hope to learn a lot from you guys and girls! Currently I don't have any work in English, but I'm not here to show my work, at least not for now. Here's the image I promised you above. PS: Forgive me for any English grammar mistakes, I wrote this straight out of my mind and due to laziness didn't proof read it... :v Art by Margot Hare: https://www.artstation.com/artist/art-of-margot

Welcome, Diego! Great to have you with us. Funny enough, I read the Captain Underpants books when I was younger too! Loved them - great to hear how they inspired you!
Thanks for the welcoming JL and Matt! The artist appreciates the comment about the image! If it weren't for Captain Underpants I wouldn't have started showing my comics to outsiders and I probably wouldn't be as used to getting feedback as I am today. Just out of curiosity, did you had any favorite title in particular? I remember that when I was a kid the second was my favorite, the one with the talking toilets.

Diogo, it's been so long since I read those that I honestly can't remember one from the other...but I did always love the idea of something I created coming to life!
Yep, living head to head with the products of your imagination can always lead to interesting outcomes.
