I write any and everywhere but not always in the tangible sense. My ideal place to write is near water and outdoors. The sounds of running water that I don't have to pay for motivates my writing. I'd love a week long writing session at a beach house or cabin on the lake with a fireplace, and tons of paper.
So where do you write? What's your ideal/dream writing place? Do you cram in a closet, stretch out at the park?
I think most that write long enough do the same thing not always writing in the tangible. It's amazing how many idea's I'm mentally noting within ordinary conversation, everyday situations and even quiet events at times.
I don't really care where I physically write although when I do I prefer to be alone because now I'm entering my world. I recently discovered I don't have the patience for adaptation, historical, documentary or any true life events because I'm not entering MY WORLD and telling MY STORY. I wrote a story loosely but accurately based on true events lately. When I read it I thought it was beautiful but I just didn't feel fulfilled because it wasn't really my story but my take on an existing story.
I'm a storyteller but I'm finding my true calling is not being just a storyteller of stories but a storyteller of my own creations. I know this might sound odd to some but after writing and trying different genre's/stuff in general for some years now: telling my own story is the only time I feel the real me telling my real story.
I live in a fantasy world that to many seems unreal simply because I create fantasy worlds that are real. To the point: this is the WHERE I do my writing.

these days, I write on NYC subways. Free wi-fi in all the underground stations. 24/7. Beats headphones & my .380 Walther PPK on my hip.
Dream writing places? Paramount Studios bungalow. Playboy Mansion. Learjet G6. The french laundry.
These days it's looking out the second story window of my house. I write and can watch humanity walk by or if someone is trying to steal my car. I've also written in coffee shops, hotels, waiting rooms and an airplane. The hotel was kinda cool.
I write in my office, which overlooks my backyard, if I'm using my desktop. If I'm using my laptop, I often sit on the couch, tv on, dogs and kids wandering through. I actually work better with activity around me, probably because my kids were small when I started my freelance business and my days were regularly interrupted with "mom...?"
Sometimes I sneak in some work during my day job too (shhh) either on my break or if the rest of the office has gone home.
So in short, I work wherever and whenever I can. :-)

Oh I should add, I've done some great work while on planes!

I can only write when I can, and where I can. Sometimes it's not the "ideal" time/place but I'll pull up Youtube and BACH in 432 Hz, and I'm good to go! Pages just fly after that!

Cafes. All the background noise keeps me focused. The other perk is that cafes provide an endless supply of characters and overheard dialogue ideas,
This is going to sound really depressing but I like being shut in my room with the blinds shut and dark lighting while I sit on my bed and write. Or sometimes I like to sit near a window where I can see the sky (I'm hoping it would be blue and not the saddening grey). And in the future of an established career (hopefully), I would like to have a house by the beach where I would write.
