Introduce Yourself : Moral stance? by Wendy Loomis

Wendy Loomis

Moral stance?

Greetings - My name is Wendy Loomis and I am a composer for indie film and live ensembles. I have been asked to score a short film whose subject/genre is erotica. I saw a previous film by the filmmaker and believe it was very well done, but quite disturbing (especially as a woman). I am having some doubts about doing the job as I'm not sure I want my name associated. Any thoughts from people about this subject?

Allen Lynch

Hi Lisa. As a composer/artist, I try not to take a job that makes me feel uncomfortable. During the time that I did some work for a company that I didn't agree with, I gave a portion of my fee to a charity. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Myron DeBose

Alan, that was some nice thinking. I think the FORCE is with you.

George Fir

In life simply be ethical and do no harm-it is ok to let go of people and projects. Be mindful of whom you associate with and be consistent and work hard to build your reputation as a solid reliable person

Doug Nelson

Wendy - If it don't feel right, don't do it. Stuff like that has a tendency to come back and bite you on the butt at the most inoperative time.

Thanks, everyone, for your insight and advice. Much appreciated!
