Screenwriting : Where are you on this scale? by Craig D Griffiths

Craig D Griffiths

Where are you on this scale?

People that say I have a great idea and I want 50% I think are (1). These don't know that they don't know. We then have people just starting they are (2) the people we need to care for and not kill with cynicism. These people know that they don't know. (3) is most of us, we know what to do and have to be conscious of our actions. It hasn't become automatic for us. Then finally (4) people that are Competent with no effort, no Conscious effort is needed. So where are you on this scale. I am a (3) on write craft, but character I am knocking on the door of (4). Everything else I am in the safest area (2), I know I don't know.

Craig D Griffiths

I think that still makes you a 1, may be 0.5.

Craig D Griffiths

James, that's interesting. This is a standard way of measuring understanding.

Craig D Griffiths

Dan you don't want the (1) people they think they know everything. You want (2) with fear.

Stevie T

In number 2 is incompetent consciously misspelled? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a spelling Nazi - I can barely spell my own name... Just wondering if it is part of the test or an oops.

Craig D Griffiths

Just a typo.

Doug Nelson

In my own perceptual set, I rate myself as 5) Competent/Don't give a dam* but the young 'uns I try to work with seem to rate me as a # 1).

David Downes

5^1/2 but what do I know?

Jeffrey Khoza

I would rate myself 3.

Craig D Griffiths

We can work towards being a 3. Then after being a 3 for a long time. And with plenty of practice we will become a 4. We will probably not realise it when it happens, but we will after a while. Interesting see how people self assess.

James Walsh

Focus is the main hurdle. But it is not impossible.

David Downes

I think my work is a number 4, but the readers say its a number 2.
