So, if I die and magically my material is discovered and people want to buy my stories and turn them into movies, how does that work? What should I be doing now to make sure that even COULD happen?
I don't understand. You expect to collect royalties after you die? My agent's clients include the estates of a few deceased writers and singers. Elvis makes more money today than he did when he was alive. (So does John Wayne, Hitch & others.)
I would assume more than money, one would at least want credit if their works are discovered/purchased after their death. I like the concept of the will that Rob Jones suggests. I would assume registering your copyright would be helpful to whoever picks up ownership.
Make sure your family has copies of all your copyright registration. I know it's not nice to think of that, but it really is just being smart and practical
It happened to Kafka. Maybe put them in a will to someone, hard copies in a safe. Have them on a blog/website. IDK.

Intellectual property can be listed in your will like any other property.
