1) I started writing at a young age because it was safer to write the thoughts, ideas, and stories in me than to speak them! I wrote poems, short stories, etc. I knew I saw the universe a little differently than those around me.
2) I could and can travel anywhere in my mind, heart, and soul and create an event (Screenplay) that allows me to see those things I carry within and show those who might enjoy those visions.
3) To take a life event and show what is possible.
4) To alter history for a moment in time, i.e. change an outcome, twist it...
5) To write stories that allow us to focus on other things, relieve the stresses of our day in day out life. i.e. To get away from it all for a moment or two!
In no particular order: 1) I love the brainstorming of ideas and collaboration. 2) Being able to go to the set to see my work come to life is great, not to mention having my travel and room paid for usually, also great! 3) working in my PJs or sweats, up all night, on a coffee buzz. 4)That moment when the idea I need pops into my brain and my problem is solved. 5) Researching. I love to research what I need to know for a script, though on a recent thriller, I do wonder what anyone looking at my search history would make of the pages I bookmarked! Interpol and the FBI may come knocking or a black unmarked van may be parking outside of my house yet!
I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours :)
Ah, the stories I can tell!
@Martina, I'm just a beginner, so I only know what I read... So, my top 5 would be:
1)You get to tell stories and writing is something you enjoy to do...
2)You can write anytime you want/feel like...:)
3)You can rewrite and constantly explore your story and maybe improve...
4)You can receive feed-back on your work both free(good sites) and paid(a lot of sites)
5) You can meet and interact with wonderful people...:)

Nice ones! Here's mine:
1) I express ideas too complex to talk about
2) I can hope someone will understand them (and me)...
3) I feel part of a community dedicated to something creative
4) I have something to dream about
5) I feel accomplished when I do something rather than just talk about it (this is when I manage to finish a full feature!)
Beginner or not, if you write, you are a writer :)

2. Finishing a screenplay is like holding a lottery ticket with slightly better odds than an actual lottery ticket.
3. You can daydream about grotesque crimes, moral bankruptcy, and cataclysmic calamity sans the wandering the streets and muttering.
4. It's confirmation that you are "too good-looking" for acting.
5. You can unabashedly trounce your social media friends whenever they proselytize their malformed opinions.
6. Really good at math, and numbers, and counting, and following instruction.
