Film School Decisions?

Hi! I'm 17, and I've been accepted to Ithaca, Emerson, UNCSA and the University of Westminster for screenwriting/film-related courses. Has anyone attended any of these universities, or any other film schools, and can you give me any information on what they're like? Thank you!

David Trotti

UCLA, here. My biggest suggestion is take advantage of any internship programs your chosen school offers that bring you into contact with actual production companies and studios. Also use your professors and alumni connections to meet working professionals who can mentor you and foster your career. The value of being at any college or university even USC, UCLA, NYU or Chapman is not the degree but the connections you acquire.

I got my first film job when one of my professors at UCLA had a friend producing a film who needed PA's. A group of six of us got hired as set PA's for the big extra days on Born on the Fourth of July.

As far as film school, recognize early who the lazy people are and who the committed people are and team up with those who pull their weight and start making films with them. That will be the peer group who bootstrap each other into the business and help get each other jobs till one of you makes it and pulls the others up too.

Good luck and have fun!

Hi Desireé, congratulations on your acceptances! I haven't attended those specific universities, but I've heard great things about their film programs. It's fantastic that you're seeking insights before making your decision. David's advice about taking advantage of internship programs and networking opportunities is spot on. If you still decide to go to specific college, I can also recommend to see reviews of resources which provide professional help at https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/edubirdie.com and after careful research, consider hiring an expert. It would make the process of study much easier. Best of luck with your film school decision and your future career.
