Reader Jobs

Hey,

Does anyone know of any companies that hire remote script readers with Film School as their only experience? I know a ton about story structure and what makes screenplays good but live out in the middle of Tennessee so opportunities out here are scarce.

Contact script websites like black list, wescreenplay. Have sample coverage reports to show.

Or start your own script consulting business.

Thanks for all of the comments! I appreciate the help!

Doug Nelson

Laura, you evidently speak from experience. Chris, you evidently do not speak from experience. Now who do you think I'd rather get script coverage from?

Dan Guardino

Cobi just asked about becoming a Reader. Dan M suggested he might want to start his own Script Consulting business. By looking at what Cobi I would think he has the experience to become a good Script Consultant.

Doug Nelson

Sorry Chris, I mistyped - I really meant Cobi.

Dan Guardino

Laura. Check his bio. That seems to be different than what he posted. By his bio he seemed pretty qualified but I am not in that business so I really don't know what qualifications one should have to be a script consultant.

Dan Guardino

Hey Laura. I think you know a lot more about what qualifications a Script Consultant should have than me. All I know about them is from people that come here who call themselves Script Consultants and a lot of them don't seem to have experienced working in the industry and most never sold or been hired to write a feature screenplay.

John Ellis

My question is, why? Cobi, why would you want to be a reader? It's a low-paying, pretty thankless job. Script doctors and consultants make more money, but, as mentioned, without actual dev/production experience, you'll be swimming upstream to make a go of it. If you really know structure and "what makes screenplays good," then WRITE. That's where the real (albeit long time frame) success comes from. Plus, being in TN won't make a whit of difference to someone who wants to buy your scripts. Just sayin'. :)

Dan Guardino

I agree Laura. It is bad they aren't regulated because someone that isn't qualified can really hurt someone's chances of breaking in.
