Hello fellow filmmakers, actors, and film fans,
My name is Erick, an up and coming writer/director from the Bay Area ( East Bay to be exact) getting into the game to have my stories made and shown.My directing influences are Chris Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, Akira Kurosawa, Ishiro Honda, and Hideaki Anno (anime director), however recently I've obtained inspiration from Ryan Coogler, a fellow filmmaker from my area.
I've lived here in the Bay Area for a long time and have long desired to make a film set in this region because let's be honest New York and Los Angeles are way too overexposed ( No offense to anyone from LA or NY). I've written ( and now rewriting) a grounded science fiction crime drama set in Oakland in the future. Not going into much detail but it's been a concept I've since been developing in my screenwriting courses in college. The story line has a Hispanic main lead character along with a diverse supporting cast. I've figured that representation in cinema can best be obtained and embraced through genre type films like horror, sci-fi, and action, which most mainstream audiences tend to look at more, but I still want to tell a compelling story so I mix in character development and drama. I also want to bring more exposure to Oakland, we've only seen some of it in films like Coogler's Fruitvale Station and the upcoming Sorry to Bother You by Boots Riley.
