Last month after winning a screen writing contest, I sent out 50-60 query letters to managers (no agents, since I don't have a deal in the works) using the info in IMDb Pro. So far I've only had two read requests. I was optimistically hoping for ten to twelve since the script won a contest but two is better than none.

I equeried one of the biggest hollywood producers (not Weinstein) and the VP of development replied on her Iphone with two words, "send script."
Another contact in my small but powerful list of who's who and on salary.
I recently emailed with a producer and suggested I would watch one of his movies to get a better idea of how he clicked. He said that particular movie had taught him a negative lesson and he was moving in a different direction now. So I guess we are all learning as we go and sometimes researching a producer could hamstring you, though probably not often. Maybe it’s all just a crap shoot.
Hi Phillip. I emailed about 60 production companies my query letter last month. I used IMDB pro and cross referenced with The Hollywood Screenwriters Directory to make sure the companies were a good fit before sending the query. I received 4 responses and 3 requested the script. The responses were positive and now just waiting to hear back. Big thanks to Michael Hauge and his book Selling Your Story in 60 Seconds. Hope this helps! Good luck!
The best luck I have had is with Linkedin. To me it is the best social networking site for networking. It sets you up with the specific industry connections what ever your career is and also has pretty good analytics in the free version.
definitely something I would be interested in trying. But I can only budget so much money per month for this hobby. 60 production company queries sounds like a lot in this era though. I find myself going to less than ten films a year these days.
Yes, absolutely! I have to agree with Anthony. Out of 50+, you might hear back from 3-5. But it's definitely worth it.
