What is your record number of rewrites for a screenplay until finally getting to the final draft? I'm currently on my 9th revision of my spec script. Is that a lot or not?
For the one script I managed to sell, I did 13 rewrites. For all the ones I haven't been so fortunate on yet, they are all well into double digits. I would say I couldn't give what an exact number should be, only keep at until you feel it's right.
I am on the 12th draft currently, have been writing this piece since 2010. And the current version is very exciting. I can't wait to see this baby on screen.
My record is 15 drafts, but the sad thing is, I knew it needed more work after about draft 9 but couldn't figure out what to do for over 6 months. (Happy ending, though, but that's a story for another time.)

I once did 7. That made me try to make the first draft of the next one tighter.
