Best Action Script?

Hey everyone. Cheers to making it to the weekend, but you know us creatives-the writing never stops. What would you all say is one of the best action movie scripts to read if you're intent on growing more in that genre?

Beth Fox Heisinger

Well, there are many great action films/scripts to study, so off the top of my head: The Matrix, Die Hard, and The Bourne Identity franchise are good places to start. ;)

Bill Costantini

Agree with Beth, on those great stories. You might also want to consider exactly the type of genres/sub-genres that you're putting your action in. Action-adventure films like Romancing the Stone or Speed? War action like Dunkirk or Paths of Glory? Sci-Fi action like Star Wars or Blade Runner? Super-hero action like Black Panther or Wonder Woman? Cartoon action like The Incredibles or The Lion Kng? Horror action like 30 Days of Night or Resident Evil? Futuristic action like Mad Max or Planet of the Apes? Buddy Cop action like Rush Hour or 48 Hours? Spy action like Atomic Blonde or Mission Impossible? Hit man action like The Equalizer or John Wick? Etc. Etc.

Those are all great scripts and great films. Action in itself is great, and each genre/sub-genre is the vehicle for the action.

Best fortunes to you in your creative (action) endeavors, Imo!

Anthony Moore

I also agree with Beth but would like to add "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse". It may be an animated film but it has some of the best action scenes I've ever read.

Bill Costantini

Adam, John Wick 3 opens in 70 days, and this might be the best one so far. Here's the link to the trailer for John Wick 3, in case you haven't seen it.

Best fortunes to all you action lovers!

Allen Roughton

If you can get your hands on an early draft of Mile 22 (pretty different from the movie), I think it has some of the best action on the page I've ever read in a script.

We also did a breakdown of some action scripts in the Stage 32 Writers Room that I thought were great - John Wick, The Nice Guys, and Hell or High Water.

Thanks Frankie appreciate it

Ah I loved the Bourne movies so that script should be an interesting and informative read. Thanks Jonathan

Imo Wimana Chadband

Hey Adam, John Wick was actually one of the first scripts I read before I started my script. I'm a huge fan of the franchise

Imo Wimana Chadband

That sounds very intriguing Allen. Sounds like a great script from your description. I'd have to look it up and give a read

Imo Wimana Chadband

Thank you very much Beth. Those were some of my best movies. I've read the plot for John Wick already, and I actually have the script for The Matrix but I avoided reading it for fear of being overwhelmed with greatness haha I'd have to suck it up in the name of improving and developing my craft

Imo Wimana Chadband

I actually considered that Spider-Man Anthony. I guess I should go ahead and give it a read as well. Thanks bro

Imo Wimana Chadband

Ah! Thank you so very much Bill! Very detailed response, and I didn't look at it from that perspective but it makes so much sense what you're saying. I appreciate you taking the time to give that feedback, definitely widened my knowledge and helped. I'm going to give it my best shot... Teaser: it's going to be a spy action :)
