So, I once got some coverage, screenplay pass, writer consider. Quarterfinalist in a few contests including Bluecat. Do these, I would call them victories, have any impact with producers?
It depends on the specifics and the specific producer. But generally speaking, no, those would not have much impact because typically execs/producers prefer to and will form their own opinion on material and/or a writer. What those things do impact is your own development and being able to gauge your writing, which is a good thing. ;)
What would help is a recommendation from a legit agent, agency, working writer, filmmaker, assistants, actor, cinematographer... someone who knows someone who makes movies for a living
Anything which gets the script read can be useful but none of that matters unless the writing is marketable and of high quality. Write something good people want to see and use any positive feedback to get more eyes on it.
Producer don't give a rat's rectum about those kinds of things but it might get you more reads and that is always the first step in this long journey. Good luck!
No. Quarterfinals isnt enough to mean anything to producers, unless maybe its Nicholl Fellowship. Keep working on your craft and keep getting better. Get pro notes from a consultant and see how you can take your script and talents to the next level.
I depends on the competition Steven. I think there are a handful that have weight with them and the rest not so much I'm afraid.
