What’s the longest time it’s taken you to write a script from start to finish? To the point where there are no more re-writes.

Two years and still going. But that's for a number of reasons, such as periods in between good inspiration, medical issues, inability to focus well, trying to perfect the script, taking a lot of time in between additions or rewrites, etc. Most of the work I've done though has been over the past several months pushing forward.

Oh well for me, I think the longest a typical screenplay for me I think takes around maybe at tops maybe 4 or 3 months or so maybe even 5 months. Kind of depends on how much time I have I believe.

I have a script I’ve been working on for 12 years, though that’s involved a lot of starts and stops. But truth be told, the re-writes never end. The film could be shot, edited and in theaters and you’ll still sit bolt-upright in bed at 3 am with a better idea for a scene than what was in the movie. So don’t think of a script as “finished,” think of it as something complete enough to make a movie out of.

I worked on my first script for five years. I put it (and screenwriting) on the shelf for nine years. I came back to it and spent another four years on it. Thankfully, it launched my screenwriting career. Otherwise, I might have jumped off a cliff after all that! lol I don't recommend this approach btw ;-)
