Screenwriting : No Country for Old Men by Dillon Horner

Dillon Horner

No Country for Old Men

I have seen the movie years back but just came across the book from Cormac McCarthy. Very inspiring work and his dialogue use (or disuse) is a revelation to me because I hadn't seen it done that way previously.

I read that he started the story off as a screenplay before making it a novel.

Jeff Caldwell

Yeah he originally wrote it as a script. By disuse, do you mean the lack of quotation marks?

Dillon Horner

yes I meant to write that! yes i was amazed by the lack of quotation marks....i realize this isn't exactly normal but I quite like the style

Jeff Caldwell

Yeah. It can be jarring at first, but you get used to it. Check out the sunset limited on HBO. Based on a play/dramatic novelization he wrote. It's just two guys in a room debating whether or not God exists and whether or not one should kill himself. Tommy lee jones and Sam Jackson. Also check out his other books.

Wow! haven't heard of this either.....McCarthy is turning into my new favorite writer
