Screenwriting : Finally starting the next script by Pete Whiting

Finally starting the next script

After finishing some first drafts of scripts that will now go through the editing, coverage and refining process, I have now begun my first 2020 script:

Logline - Two friends who made a pact to get married if neither was married by the age of 42 are confronted by the realities of their promise as the deadline draws closer.

possible title names - YES, NO, SORRY or I MIGHT or I DO KINDA - still playing around that part but I am sure something good will come up.

Haven't got a deadline in mind. It'll be finished when its finished.

Andrew Graf

"Kind of, sort of, maybe, sorry." -- A marriage pact made a lifetime ago inches toward fruition as two friends 42nd birthdays draw closer.

--Good Luck Buddy sounds like a good story.

Christopher Phillips

Kinda, Sorta, Maybe. Drop the “sorry” because it makes us think they already decided no. Why 42? What not 40th birthday?

Andrew Graf

Dan,

Like they made a pact to kill each other when they were high school friends. Both goth, both unpopular, both haven't hit puberty yet. Then one hits puberty and becomes drop-dead gorgeous, like Ryan Reynolds and the other....well puberty hit but wasn't as effective. Now 42 is here, and she's looking to cash in on the promise made all those years ago.

Anthony Moore

My suggestion - "The Marriage Pact"

Andrew Graf

Chris Phillips,

he could use sorry if one of them were already involved in a previous relationship, but it wasn't going anywhere. Like the six-year engagement from hell.

actually, as I write this, I gotta agree, probably wise to take "sorry" out.

Also, 40 seems cliche. 42 seems...original? Maybe?

Christopher Phillips

42 will be the sequel...

Stephen Floyd

If you want an alternative to homicide, start the movie with them getting married then spend the rest of the story examining what happens when two people casually make a life-changing decision.

Pete Whiting

thanks for the comments guys. There is a a reason for the characters picking the age of 42 which is explained in the screenplay. Anyway, this project number 1 for 2020. Now gotta turn those scrappy notes into something real that hopefully opens doors.

Imo Wimana Chadband

Oh, seems like it can make for some dream crushing realities. Go for it bro! Glad to see you're starting 2020 strong. Trying to follow in your footsteps myself. Possible title "I...Do?" :)
