Poor Joe - Short Film (US 2020) (7 mins) (Suspense, Mystery, Psychological Horror)

Dear friends,

I'd like to share with you a short film called POOR JOE which I shot with my team in Seattle in February. We launched it on Youtube on Monday. It is a suspense, mystery, psychological horror short film. It does not contain violence/gore or bad language (not that there is anything wrong with any of these), and I'd say it's suitable for anyone aged 12 or over.

PLOT: It’s Saturday and Joe Rosand is looking forward to some quality time off. But as the morning goes on, a series of strange incidents makes Joe question his sanity.

TAGLINE: What's going on?

We hope you enjoy watching the film as much as we enjoyed making it. If you do, please consider giving the film a thumbs up on Youtube, leaving comments, and most importantly, sharing it with all your friends and family. The more people see the film, the greater the chances of us being able to make more films like it! Happy viewing!

The team behind Poor Joe is:

Tim Fraser-Granados: Writer/Director/Editor/Sound Designer

Andrea Tante Hays: Executive Producer

Duncan Star-Boszko: Actor

Chris Wyatt: First Assistant Director

Rakesh Malik: Director of Photography/Colorist

Frances Tia Baker: Camera Operator/Focus Puller

Adam Rosand: Art Director/Set Designer

Umberto Lenzi: Sound Recording/Sound Mix

James Mahoney: Gaffer/Production Assistant

Jeff Bernstein: Composer

Thank you for your kind reply, Maurice. Glad you liked it. We're planning on making more old school genre films like this one.

Tim Granados

It's not mine. It belongs to our Executive Producer, the First AD and two other filmmakers. Barrie Pictures is my production company. I have a Facebook page for that and for the film itself. Any film I direct myself will be under the BP banner. I imagine the next few films will be on Cascadia Dread as well. Poor Joe may yet show up on other platforms. It's been submitted to a few the day we launched on Cascadia Dread but I don't expect to hear anything for at least 60 days.

We'd love to shoot the next one sooner than later but Covid 19 has thrown a spammer into the works with that. Scripts for short films 2 and 3 are already written but film two needs a park/reserve and film three needs a private house and neither are an option until May or so (Washington State is ahead of most other states because they defied the federal ban on testing in February). I'm going to try brainstorm short film four next week when I'm done revising the feature film. Short film four is set in a location that's supposedly free to film in, so we need to see if we want to chance filming outdoors while this business is going on.

Fingers crossed all those get made!

Thanks Erkut but we're not spending money on film festivals. I think it's a waste of money and time and resources. I'd rather put our films out right away for everyone to see immediately instead of having to put them on hold for months or years only to get rejections anyway. But thanks for the link.

Tim Granados

Hi Maurice, thank you for asking! I'm good, hope you're the same, and keeping safe in your city/state. Hoping the lockdown lifts here in WA in June so I can film a new short.

Debbie Croysdale

@Tim Thanks for the share. Felt natural like it was happening to someone real.

Tim Granados

Debbie that is very kind of you to say. Comments like yours brighten up my day. Hope you're well and safe and busy with your own projects. We'll be making more shorts like this one. I've written 4 more scripts and am currently trying to figure out between two scripts which one is likely to be cheaper to make. When the lockdown lifts in Washington next month (hopefully anyway), we'll try to film as soon as possible.

I have just released our new short film NOBODY CARES tonight with the support of our friends at Cascadia Dread! Rakesh Malik, Adam Rosand, Andrea Tante Hays, Umberto Lenzi, Jeff Bernstein & James Mahoney all return from POOR JOE, and are joined by Michael Crowley, Anastasia Henley, Thomas Durant & Leilani Willson.

I recommend watching the film fullscreen in 1080p and with a pair of good head or earphones or a good speaker set. Let us know what you thought of it, and if you liked it, or know someone who would, please share it with as many people as possible.
