Hi Everyone... it's awesome to be a part of a creative community such as Stage32, isn't it? I think sometimes we forget how lucky we are to be in this crazy business -- a business where we take all the swirling feelings that people feel and write about them, film them, compose music to heighten them... basically help people to process what they're going through. So none of this is new for us. Although we CAN get caught up in it, from time to time. But when we take a step back and remember who we are -- as ARTISTS -- and our place in society, it really makes this all just a wee bit easier.
This is supposed to be "Introduce Yourself" so let me just add that I'm a filmmaker -- a writer/director and producer (when the situation arises). But I started my entertainment career as a musician so I have a bit of background there, too. My most recent project, which I'm just now finishing up, is a proof of concept for a feature entitled "Chick." It's the (mostly) true story of the greatest jazz drummer you've probably never heard of. He beat Duke Ellington, Gene Krupa and other notables in battles of the bands -- routinely, he discovered Ella Fitzgerald and he was a hunchback. My short piece is entitled "Discovering Ella." I'm now looking for a producing partner who can help me put the feature project together.
I've also just published a book entitled "CAST YOURSELF: The Actor's Guide to Self-Producing" and it's getting 5-star reviews on Amazon. And I'm writing my next feature. Come by my page and say hello. These days I've got plenty of time to hang around here (more than usual). ;-)
Hi Kathi- Right - you doin' it. Great spirit- Keep it going- Ed Skirtich
