TV Writing and Networking

Networking is so important. How can aspiring television writers network with showrunners?

Get a crew job when TV production starts again.

LaToya Morgan started a social media campaign for her Peers to read sample specs by up and comers. Some Pre-WGA members got jobs and meetings.

Julie Flec (I think that is how she spelled her last name) use to reach out to people that followed her on Twitter.

Doug Nelson

Butt on set is the best way I can think of.

Paley Center does TV screenings with Q&A with writers and cast. But "stalk" some TV writers on Twitter and other social media. If they go to a film festival or something in your area, go and introduce yourself. A few years ago I was planning to make a movie with guys from my hometown. It didn't happen, but part of that experience was trying to find people from my hometown who were movie or TV stars in order to convince them to be in our film... by "stalking" them online. A comedy TV star whose parents still live in my hometown was my primary target. I followed him on Twitter, and began replying with jokes that I had written. He began responding to the good ones. I mentioned some hometown things. We became online friends, then I met him at an event. Though we never made our movie, he was one of several people that I think would have agreed to play a one day role in the film.

Craig D Griffiths Julie Plec, perhaps?

I heard someone got a movie deal from a script pitch on Twitter. I know there are writing days to pitch on Twitter with hashtags that agents promote. I haven't done one yet....

Connecting on Twitter is purely about connecting. It's not a vehicle to be slipping into someone's DM's and trying to pitch them. I interact with people on Twitter that's I've known for years. And on occasion, I get to see them in person when at festivals or if we happen to be in the same zip code...
