Selling to the broadcast networks during the Pandemic

Fewer pilots ordered to series for broadcast. Great article for all those trying to sell to broadcast!

Despite the pandemic chaos it was almost business as usual in May in TV, with three of the five broadcast networks picking up new series.

Just curious, everyone is using Zoom at the moment for pitches and meetings. Will that still continue in the near future even as states start to open up?

Scott Schulman

I do think it will be zoom for a while at least until the fall.

Christopher Phillips We don't use Zoom at ondemand.global or in my other business endeavors. For an "overfview" of why, check out the link. But there are some much more detailed and worriesome issues consistently reported on a cursory google search. These include personal info of participants showing up on Chinese sites, encryption keys routed through Chinese Communist Party sites, etc. These are not conspiracy assertions - they are not controversial and reported by reliable sources. The owner of Zoom, connected with mainland China and the CCP has said these issues are being "addressed" but to date... nothing.

Scott Schulman Thanks for sharing. It does seem "business as usual" which might appear odd to some given the Wuhan Virus event. However, while theatrical has changed drastically and forever, this article does focus on TV, which apart from production interruptions, has no really changed. The inevitable shift to web based delivery is not really affected for TV by this. The feature film sector has been disrupted entirely and been forced to trot out Virtual Theatrical years before it is ready... The changes do permit independent and new producer-distributor models, like the one I am working on at Facet-ODG to get into the space.

Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg I agree that Zoom has some issues that need to be addressed, but it is the easiest to use for a group setting. I've tried Microsoft Teams and it's not easy to use - and members will have a different experience if they are on the App vs. the browser. Skype is horrible to use for a group. GoTo Meeting is okay for a webinar. Webex is also okay for webinars.

Christopher Phillips Yeah well this is the problem, right? I have used uberconference for several years, which is free and reliable for basic meetings. And inexpensive for more complex and larger meetings. Skype is terrible in groups, as you say. Google hangouts just sucks all around IMO and there are not too many others around.

I just signed up for the webinar with Facet-ODG on Jan. 25. Looks interesting!
