Christine, I'd recommend joining the Reddit subreddit on screenwriting. There's a lot of conversation there about the BlkLst. My experiences were generally positive. Some folks think it's geared too much toward marketability. But read through the many /r/screenwriting comments on Reddit to get a broad opinion.
Yes, definitely recommend. It isn't cheap but if you're looking for honest feedback, I think across the board they do a good job. They are a bit more impartial than screenwriting contests and competitions because you can''t "win" the blcklist. Where they get you is the monthly hosting fee for your script (if you choose to do that).
I found that The Black LIst coverage is generally pretty good. I got useful notes. However, the number ratings feel a little arbitrary and don't seem to match the written analysis. At $30 per script, per month, the hosting fees get a little expensive.
I liked their coverage but felt that some of it was standard feedback. A lot of it was telling me things I already knew about screenwriting and not really touching on the characters but only that I had too many. Their last comment made me wonder if it's something they say to everyone...basically that it's commercially viable and once I worked on refining it, it would attract producers and financiers. Or am I just doubting myself? haha
Karen yes, I will absolutely do that! I have pitched to executives though and received some good feedback. There was only one time that I was disappointed and it was when one exec only commented on my Grammar and not the story. I will consider getting script coverage though. At this point, my script needs it.
Christine, I've wondered some of the same, but I have gotten some useful notes out of them. Notes are a tough process. They require a lot of analysis . . . Then again, it's all a part of the process.
Dan thanks. I guess there is a difference and I will admit, I was looking for notes but an evaluation is definitely helpful. I scored a 6/10 for overall so I know I have some work to do.
I did NOT think it was worth it at all! I actually kind of hate the black list. Spend your money on script coverage here at St32, either with a competition submission or just on its own.
A script hosting website that gives industry members a page showing the logline, script details, writer profile, and their other projects... all while encouraging writers to include a synopsis...

Have you had our scripts evaluated by Stage 32 readers? I'm just sayin'... we're right here. ;-)

Sarah, why is that? Hate is such a strong word.

What a “revolutionary” concept!

Good one CJ. I love sarcasm.
I love it when people express their dislike for something but don't explain why.
