Aloha, it's been a while. With the pandemic and the fires keeping me indoors even more than usual, I thought I'd stop by & say hi. Hope you're thriving. Thank goodness I still have a day job (working from home, with hair gone full hippie) and I'm still writing. I just rewrote "Epiphany" to enter in a contest -- it looks even more prophetic than it did in 2016. "The Mustang Scout," the novel about my father's WW2 experiences, is in the logline/outline phase. For sure it's not a conventional war story (more on that if you're curious).
Hi Wayne!
Hey there, Wayne, hope you and your hipper hair staying safe and stylish! You piqued my curiosity, for sure, I've always found WWI and WWII to be such fascinating times and material, with an endless array of stories and perspectives. What makes Mustang Scout unconventional?
Stay safe! Even we, in the wet and cold Netherlands, do think this Summer is too hot.. However, the world needs good stories more than ever.
Hi Glory Anna, about "The Mustang Scout" -- the character based on my dad created an alter ego (not just a name) to survive almost 3 years in the Japanese-occupied Philippines. It was not at all the war he had trained for. His new job was managing a Cabaret as a front for the Resistance, to gather intel and recruit guerrillas. At the same time he had to live this life completely separate from his family, for their safety (and to protect his own secrets). This isn't going to be propaganda as most war stories are -- we've seen more than enough of that. Illusion-shattering to reveal reality is more my style.
What an amazing story! No wonder you want to tell it.

All the yes, Wayne! I so prefer war stories that strip away the "glamour" of battle and brotherhood and reveal the grittier reality of what war actually looks like from the perspective of the individuals who's lives are completely upheved by its reverberating effects. These are the stories you don't hear about, and the ones, imho, that are far more interesting by far! Your father's experience sounds so fascinating, I can't wait to see more on it from you! Thanks for sharing!
Welcome!
