Long Time Screenwriter, Networking Novice

Hey Everyone,

I've technically been on Stage 32 since 2011 but I've never used it! Since I started following the site on Instagram I'm getting a better idea of what a powerful tool it can be, so here I am again!

I've been writing feature scripts for about 20 years and had my first one optioned/sold/produced a few years ago. The film, BUCK RUN, premiered at Palm Springs in 2019 and went on to win some festival awards. I've included the trailer here. Distribution is coming, and you'll be able to stream it in the near future.

I have a few scripts ready to go, and a long-term project I intend to produce and direct once all the pieces come together. My day job is teaching screenwriting at Academy of Art University.

I have not been very diligent when it comes to expanding my network and getting my new scripts out in front of people. I hope to meet people on Stage 32 who I can work with on future projects.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Hey, David L Hauslein! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage 32. Nice to meet you! Aww, thanks for following us on IG! Did you catch Taylor's IG LIVE earlier today? She does one every Friday for #FilmmakerFriday Oh, cool, I used to teach, too! Broadcast Journalism, Film/TV Production, and IB Film to high schoolers - I won't lie, I was born for that job! LOL!

Wow, congrats on your successful screenwriting career, that's awesome! I’m sure you’ve already discovered the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but definitely reach out on the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting) for insight into characters, dialogue, and even when you want to generate interest in a virtual table read! There have been lots of calls for virtual table reads of late and it's such an energizing event that's easy to do at a distance.

Actually, I'd love for you to start a post in the Producing Lounge - maybe you could discuss what you're looking forward to with your upcoming long-term project? https://www.stage32.com/lounge/producing

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my intro blog post on how to engage with the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Thank you Karen, I will look into the lounges soon!
