Introvert writer steps out of the shadows

Been eavesdropping in here for years...it's time to come out to mingle with you guys! I didn't feel ready. It may sound trite, but I wanted to wait until I had success with one of my screenplays. Well...what IS success anyway? Sure, I haven't yet had anything produced (since film school), but I'm almost ready to pitch a TV series I'm creating. The bible's done, now I'm writing the pilot. After which will come ep.2+3. Then...pitch time. How are things looking for you?

Karen "Kay" Ross

Hey, Lee Nourse! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage 32. Nice to meet you! Dude, I TOTALLY get that. Sometimes you have to do the work, keep the work close until it's finished, and THEN talk about what you've been working on. I have a pretty strict rule about not talking about what I'm working on because I inadvertently take the necessary tension out of the drive to do the work (talking about it gives me a false sense of satisfaction as if I had finished it - there's a TED talk about the phenomenon). In any case - CONGRATS on your success and being in a place to talk about it now!

Actually, you may not want to write the entirety of the other episodes. I've heard that executives look for story arcs, but not written episodes - they want a chance to collaborate and contribute to the series. If you write it all out, then they have nothing to contribute creatively. Have you considered joining the Writer's Room? I think you'd enjoy working with a group of dedicated writers (many of whom are also introverted, I think you can imagine).

I’m sure you’ve already discovered the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but definitely reach out on the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting) for insight into characters, dialogue, and even when you want to generate interest in a virtual table read! I think you'd really enjoy hosting a table read for your pilot, actually.

I think you'd also enjoy my intro blog post on how to engage with the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Hi, Lee: Wow!!!! You sound like an amazing woman!!! I wish you the greatest luck!!!

Joe Sikoryak

Welcome to the group, Lee. I remember it took me a long time lurking before I decided to speak up. But there’s nothing like jumping in the pool if you want to swim!

Karen (or is it Kay?) Great meeting you too. I've gotta find that Ted Talk. I'm actually not ready to talk about my project...I'll keep it close to my bosom for now. I've been working for several months with Hal Croasman...last year with John Truby, so I am not looking to join another group. I just have to keep my nose to the grindstone for now. But maybe I'll look at hosting a table read later. Or I might do it locally, because my partner is an actor. In fact, one of the roles was written for him. He knows other actors here that would probably be game to do a table reading. Thanks for responding here!

Joan--wow---YOU are the amazing woman among us!!! I just looked at your profile and am so inspired by your background. Many warm thanks for taking the time to comment AND especially for the generous comment. (I looked around the room and said to myself "is she talkin' to me?" Hehehe. It's very nice to meet you.

So nice of you to welcome me Joe. Thanks! I guess lurking is what many of us do for awhile on platforms like this. Not that there are others that compare! But yes, I'm ready for a good, long swim. Joe, I just love that François Truffaut quote about good film being "a perfect blend of truth and spectacle." How's the air quality in San Francisco today, by the way?

Stefano Pavone

Welcome to the club. :)

Welcome!

Hi, everyone. I have done a fair amount of acting on stage in college and in community theater in Canada. I also did stage manager work, as well as P.R.

I've also acted as an extra in movies and t.v. shows, in NYC. Well before COVID. I live in Tobyhanna, PA, and would LOVE to connect with anyone who would like to work with me.

I also wrote a children's story: A Christmas Surprise, which I think would make a great movie for very young children, if anyone would like to get together on this.

I can also be reached at: joanenering2@yahoo.com
