Emily In Paris Spec: Foreign Language

I'm working on an Emily in Paris spec and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to deal with foreign languages in the dialogue? In the show, characters speak French (and Mandarin) and there are subtitles. Any thoughts on how to write this into the script? Thanks!

Eric Cotti

Hey David, my favorite when reading a script with foreign language lines is using a parenthetical, example below...

--

CHARACTER NAME

(in French)

dialogue in primary language

ERIC

(in Mandarin)

I hope this helps.

That way when the reader is going through the flow of the story is maintained

Eric Cotti's 100% correct. I have a script where there's Celtic and Latin, same technique.

Thank you! Very helpful!
