When should you accept a deal from a production company to produce your film? Should the amount of money offered to you be a big part of your decision?
Hello Jim, As a member of the WGAe, production companies who wish to option or produce my screenplays must pay me the Guild's minimum pay schedule. Also, if the production company is a signatory of the Guild, they must pay you Guild rates. For those not in a union, I believe it's up to the writer to decide what the fee up front is, if any, that you are willing to accept. I'll leave others with experience in optioning their screenplays, answer this question for you.
