I wrote the screenplay for a short film. I hired an excellent cast of actors but instead of hiring a production crew, I purchased a camera and microphone, decided I would be the camera man and in scenes which I was in would just focus, hit record, and jump from behind the camera to in front.. While the actors gave great performances, and the photography was crystal clear, there were major issues with sound. I posted it on YouTube, got nice comments, but I didn't feel right about submitting it to festivals due to the intrusive background noise. I've always considered myself more Roger Corman than Steven Spielberg, but still. Now I do more screen writing than filmmaking.

It is a pity you didn't pay more attention to sound recording. My film production professor emphasized that sound is the single most important element of a watchable film. Even for an interview of myself -- i.e., a short piece to camera -- I rigged up a microphone on a boom stand rather than use either the camera mike or a wireless lavalier; the results were fantastic.
Great to meet you, Stephen K Bess. It sounds like you made the right decision by not submitting it to film festivals (because of the sound issues). What are you working on?

Right now just screenplays. I have two that I have been pitching.
What genres are the scripts?
Technically they are Christian. But I'm trying to broaden that market. One script could be called Christian -Noir, for it explores the dark side of denominational religion, and one involves vampires. But all have a strong theological based.
