Most importantly, I think it would seem clear that being a self- sustaining as a filmmaker would be of paramount importance. But, many seem to forget while getting into film fests & winning screenwriting contests are great, it's infinitely more important in order to sustain a long career to be able to return investment & create work that's sustainable i/e. Make some damn $ back guys, it can't be all going out w/ nothing coming in. I haven't been able to submit to a major screenwriting contest because I made too much $ more than a decade ago, don't forget you gotta be able to support urself!
