Introduce Yourself : Greetings from Amman, Jordan by Hilda Anki

Hilda Anki

Greetings from Amman, Jordan

Happy new year to everyone, I recently graduated from film school and I'm on a journey of experimenting new genres of writing. Currently i'm working on my first feature film and looking for writers around the world who would be interested in collaboration and making things happen.

A question on the side : is it important to study masters in creative writing and should I wait to get more experience in the industry before studying MA?

Matthew Parvin

Greeting, Hilda! Nice to meet you. Glad you're here. I'm always available for collaboration or if you need some eyes on your script. Love to help. Hope to hear from you and can't wait to see what you'll create!

Gary Brennan

Hello all! Excited to join this wonderful community of creatives! I'm an actor/writer, with a desk drawer of screenplays and stage plays. I'm currently producing a webisode, DRIVE which I hope to pitch once post is completed. Looking forward to meeting and learning from you all!

Hi, Hilda. I actually struggled with the same question when I finished my degree. I didn't know if I should go take my masters right away. But to be honest, I was kinda tired from school, so I decided to move to an entirely different city, take a screenwriting course instead, find a simple job so I could make some money and wish for the best! Well... That didn't really work and though I found some screenwriting opportunities after I finished the screenwriting course, those ultimately didn't work out and now I regret not taking my masters. But this was just my experience and we live in completely different countries, thing are certainly different.

Also, I would be very interested in helping with your screenplay and getting to know the story that have to tell us.

Happy New year Hilda! I don't think the two things are mutually exclusive. Meaning, you can write great screenplays without getting a masters, and you can get a masters and continue to write great screenplays. I would say if you enjoy the educational process and being in a learning environment like that, then go for a masters. But it doesn't have to keep you from writing or "being in the industry." Best of luck! Keep us posted on your progress :)

Hilda Anki congratulations!

I am screenwriting mostly from a self-taught perspective, and I think gaining experience through the writing of several scripts and literary works in different forms is mostly what generates creative momentum before continuing further studies

(I'm currently writing my 8th feature script although I have yet to sell or produce any material in the industry, I also self-published one short novel).
