Hello Everyone! Aspiring Film and TV Researcher

Hello everyone!

I just realized this is "Introduce Yourself Weekend" and wanted to introduce myself again! My name is Alia and I am an aspiring researcher for film and tv. I am interested in content/topic research as well as data driven such as qualitative and quantitative research. This community has been fantastic so far, but I would love to connect with more people in the future! Just for fun, for anyone interested, how often do you use research in your current work in film, tv, production, or any area within this world?

Dane Johnson

Hi Alia Gant, you might be interested in clearance research for film and television. Every released film requires careful review of the script and finished film to identify content that implicates privacy, publicity, trademark, copyright, and related issues. All of these issues need to be cleared before a film can be insured. Since errors and omissions insurance is required for distribution, clearance is indeed important research!

Alia Gant

Hi Dane Johnson for this suggestion! I am definitely going to look more into this! Thank you!

Landis Stokes

Welcome! Are you interested in marketing? Some studios and networks do reach out to independent agencies specifically for this purpose.

Alia Gant

Hi Landis Stokes! Thank you! When you say marketing such as marketing and communication or market research?

Landis Stokes

Alia Gant I guess, Market Research. I've heard the terms "data driven" and "qualitative and quantitative" in this context. I'm sure it could apply to story research as well... I'm just not exposed to that said of it (on a professional level).

For story / screenwriting, (BTW) I do research every time.

Alia Gant

Landis Stokes Absolutely! You are right with the data driven, qualitative and quantitative research with market research and I believe it could be used in story research depending on the story :) I also think just good ol' content research would be used for story research too :) That's awesome about your research for story and screenwriting! Is there anything you use in particular to help with your research needs?

Landis Stokes

Alia Gant Typically whatever makes sense. People, web sources, life experience... it really depends on the story and context in relation to any themes I want to portray.

You?

Alia Gant

Landis Stokes , A lot of the same! I love doing qualitative research and really getting to the non-numbers reason of why things happen, but quantitative is just as important, also people primary and secondary resources, experiences, learning and observing others...the whole gamut!
