Playing with simplicity in animation

I've just finished our new ultra short animation film "Celestial Gravity" about family values, where technically I wanted to play with simple graphic - using the simplest means for story-telling. Actually, a story can be told through even less with more beauty in meaning, but it's been my first experience in minimalism =) Partly, my life as a refugee made me think this way, but I feel thankful to God for these ideas...

Sav Cornin

Isn't it nice.

Matthew Parvin

Nice work, sir!

MB Stevens

Hey, Alexander. Your short story and animation are cool. It's amazing to give our projects life by any medium. Onward and upward.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Wow, that was a very compact story - and the minimalism totally played into it! Really well done!

Thank you so much for encouraging words about this work - it means a lot for me - I love stage32 for being such a supportive place and it's been not the first time when I found inspirational source of creative power here - thank you for being yourself! Speaking of minimalism and inspiration - as many animators, I'm a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki and in this field I'd like to mention his early work - "My Neighbors the Yamadas", 1999 - so simple and engaging way of story-telling. Thank you again - you can't imagine - I'm so happy you like it...

The most minimalist character animation that comes to mind is The Dot and the Line. Do a search if you haven’t seen it.

The work of Don Hetzfeldt is also deceptively simple. Stick figure characters, but their performances are very human.

Thank you, Mike, for the references - sounds interesting, really - I'll study them - thank you!

Bob Harper

Pixar did and interesting simplistic take on the celestial beings in Soul
