Whats my scripts genra?

Help! What is my scripts genra? I wrote a script that involves a doupleganger. It is based in present time. But after a car wreck a man sees his double leading an alternate life. Is this a Sci-Fi? or a Fantasy genra? most contest submissions want you to choose one. But its also a Drama!?

MB Stevens

DAvid Rorie I'd lean on the side of Sci-fi since deals in an alternate universe (life). Onward and upward.

Billy Kwack

Nice story, is it finished?

Marcus Leighton

I think it would depend on why there’s a double. Sci-fi normally deals with things which are set in a world of science… a scientific reason for the double. Like an experiment gone bad for instance. Fantasy usually relies on magic or some supernatural force behind it… let’s say an evil warlock creates the double. Hope that helps.

Also just a note, and I’m not trying to be petty, but you’ll want to use the term “genre” not “genra” it may be just simple typo, Lord knows I’ve made my share of those, but every little bit helps.

DAvid Rorie

yep. finished it in 2020

DAvid Rorie

Marcus Leighton thanks!

Billy Kwack

What are your plans for it?

DAvid Rorie

Billy Kwack oh you know the usual. sell it for $100k, then they hire me to direct it. lol

Billy Kwack

Nice plan, hope you get it

Daniel Stuelpnagel

DAvid Rorie it's a superhero / romcom admit it !

Craig D Griffiths

I could write that as anything. The double may not exist and it is a result of mental illness. That could be a thriller, like Shutter Island.

Debbie Croysdale

@Dsvid HYBRID GENRE!

Karen "Kay" Ross

It is definitely a Fantasy/Drama, more information is necessary to determine if it is a SciFi. Looper is a great example of a SciFi/Fantasy, Sliding Doors is a good example of a Fantasy/Romantic Comedy/Drama.

DAvid Rorie

most of these contest make me pick just 1 genre. so no /

Alexander Benra

My first idea was thriller - SciFi might be misleading allthough it could be somekind of alternate universe overlapping - or a problem in the matrix

You must clarify the rules and the premise of your particular world first! This will automatically describe your genre, like so: How did the doppelganger story come about? Magic? DNA cloning? did he have a TWIN but didn't know? is the protag in a coma, cryostasis, and dreaming from the accident like in the movie "Vanilla Sky?"? Is it a parallel universe? Btw, what are the rules?
