Hello creators of all shapes and forms.
I would like to network with people who can inspire me to develop my writing skills more.
I write short stories for the most part, but screenwriting seems so much more exciting to me.
Thank you in advance to all of us who will continue to connect after this brief intro.

I would recommend ‘learning the craft.’ You can get a lot from reading amd workshops, but a good quality masters degree (you can get away with no prior degree in anything if you can write a decent essay and have sone writing samples) and I got into the MET Film School that way and then moved to an online course at Falmouth University that way. Best student debt decision I ever made.

As an AFI Grad, I can say that Film School CAN help you make connections (depending on what school you go to, who's teaching that year, etc.), BUT, a Master's Degree at best will help you get a teaching job.
There are some great courses and books you can get that will give you just as much info and cost WAY less money (and take a LOT less time).
I would suggest you look up Webinars here and elsewhere. Find the ones that most fit what you're looking to do as a Writer and go from there.

With respect, masters degrees are not really about networking - they are about learning the craft. There is a great deal to learn about structure, working with themes, giving good feedback, working collaboratively, writing for an existing series, developing ideas from concept through to full series bible with carding through to a step outline / beat sheet to a writers treatment - all this is hard to learn from scratch just reading books or doing a few webinars. A masters is by no means a necessity - but if it’s viable to do, it’s a good way to develop much faster as a writer than most people otherwise could. I’ve certainly found it great doing a part time online masters. Actors / directors - most people don’t just make it up as they go along. Finding some way to educate oneself in the writing craft is useful.

Hi, Sun Diamond. You can learn more about screenwriting by checking out the Screenwriting lounge, watching webinars on here, writing scripts, and reading scripts. The Writers' Room will also help you grow as a writer. It probably has the most opportunities and resources on Stage 32. Reach out anytime for writing advice. I'll be glad to help.
