Animation : Who to pitch to? by Matthew D Rhodes

Matthew D Rhodes

Who to pitch to?

So, I've finalized my project's Pilot Episode and written out the pitch to give to a producer to oversee. The issue comes with who to pitch to as most producers here are looking for movies or tv series of a certain nature. I consider my work to be more Dramatic than anything else but given its story, it may not be considered as much. So is there anyone I can pitch my project to currently or am I going to have to wait a season until other producers are shown to be in search of new projects?

Bob Harper

Find contact information for production companies that might be a good fit for your project and have relationships with distributors or broadcasters.

Matthew D Rhodes

don't I have to have an agent for that kind of thing? Kinda hard to do when you live on disability only.

Elaine Haygood

Have you posted your Logline, Synopsis, and script on your profile?

People here do read those and many will at least rate them for you. If you get enough good ratings, you could get the attention of just the right Producer for your project.

Also, as a Writer's Room Member, you can sign up for a Pitch Practice Session. YOu'd not only get an opportunity to hone your pitch but also get suggestions as to who you should look into submitting to.

also, have you checked out our current list of OWA's to see if what you've written meets with what's currently being looked for?

Bob Harper

@Matthew D Rhodes Many production companies do not require an agent, usually their websites provide submissions policy.

Matthew D Rhodes

Elaine Haygood I'm temporarily a Writers Room member and while the Pitch Practice session would be nice I don't have the money to do such things.

@Bob Harper I'll have to look into things. I didn't know there was a public face for such things.

John Ellis

Get on set, volunteer if you have to. Work hard, be professional, give more than take. Once you've developed REAL relationships, then you'll have people who'll read your work. If it's good enough, those relationships could lead to pitching to real producers.

It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Alexander Kalinkin

Matthew, I understand your concern and would advice to do some research of the market what exactly producers are looking for. Yes, it's a part of professional approach and, it's free, absolutely. From this point, it would be useful to check and subscribe lists where producers post like InkTip.com and other platforms for writers. I myself do it and it works well - and it's also free. Surely, you can check stage32 Jobs section and contact producers whose projects match yours. Business is communicating, any biz, actually, so please take active part in communities where producers are. It's also free. Producers are also very creative people and if you manage to engage someone or be engaged into some creative discussion that may grow into a project later. Yes, I'm just writing what has been working for me. It's my experience but I lived through all these. One producer once said movie making is a game for the millionaires and the poor. Creativity is the point where we all meet and share our ideas regardless of our social status.

John Ellis I would love to get on set and learn more but I live in a backwoods area out in BFE nowhere living on disability where the only actor to ever be known from here was Don Knots. There is no movie industry here in WV.

@Alexander Kalinkin I signed up for Inktip and I look forward to using it, however, the first thing it told me was to be seen I had to pay for it. I was lucky enough to get the writers room free for a month. I'm lucky to save up enough money to get to talk to one producer here if possible I don't have the money living on disability to pay services just to get noticed.

Matthew D Rhodes, here's a WV filmmaker, David Smith. Here's his YT channel (you can find his email under About). Reach out, be real.

Just an example of what you can do no matter where you are. :)

Matthew D Rhodes

John Ellis what's his YT channel? you didn't post it

John Ellis

You're right - I figured you could go on YT and search "David Smith, West Virginia Filmmaker."

I did that and he came up.

Matthew D Rhodes

I added him on Twitter and Linkedin. I found him there. though I don't know if he'll connect with me on them. I'll check YT
