Producing : How to cost out a script - me or someone else? by John Schlag

John Schlag

How to cost out a script - me or someone else?

I have several features and a short written. I'd like help costing out the short, and the (deliberately) simplest feature. When I've asked about this in other places, I've been deluged with resources, under the assumption I want to learn to do this. I'd rather work with someone who already knows how, and spend my time on writing and other things. How to proceed? (Yes, there's a budget for producing a budget.)

Ck your local (or state) film commission, and look for UPMs, 1st ADs, 2nd ADs, and some Production Accountants . They'll be able to provide a budget.

Hi John! Good to hear from you. You can always post a job in the job section: https://www.stage32.com/find-jobs/add

That will generate some leads for you! Good Luck!

Hi John - as you have a budget, hire a line producer who has previously budgeted similar level projects to yours (you should have an idea of the budget range of your script) - as they put the budget AND schedule together for you shadow them and ask questions (you are the boss) so that you can apply what you learn to your short.
