Introduce Yourself : Erin Oliver by Erin Oliver

Erin Oliver

Erin Oliver

I was introducing myself. My name is Erin. I am a screenwriter and novelist. Be it a rather frustrated screenwriter and novelist.

This world is entertaining. I find meaningful conversations with folks with the same ambitions to reciprocate and keep on keeping on, rah rah sorta. I also prefer being kind and getting to know honest people. It's pretty hard to find in this industry! Film School sidelined me from working with IATSE because of a bum knee.

I love my characters and raunchy material, but not grossed out. I write strong female protagonists, and my pop culture lexicon comes out too often with irreverent humor. In our point of history, right now. I veered to write lighthearted stories that have happy endings, but cause belly laughs. I am a pretty average gal. That is also difficult to find. I'm so not that big of a deal, and I don't collect people, nor do I shove my work down their faces. So hi!

I draw my characters outright to keep from casting certain actors in my head. That was how I was taught- but I now know there are very few hard and fast rules. So this is my drawing of the MC in my work.

Cheers

Maurice Vaughan

Nice to meet you, Erin Oliver. "I draw my characters outright to keep from casting certain actors in my head." When I think of characters and as I write scripts, I picture actors for them. It helps me to develop the characters and write scenes.

I like the picture. What's your MC's name/what genre is the script?

Erin Oliver

Nice to meet you as well! Her name is Helena Cook (Solidarity Ukraine) (Honestly, I would kill to have Lizzy Caplan over anyone because she's a fantastic actress and can pull off physical comedy, which isn't easy, but she is also a tremendous dramatic actress.) The other MC is Matt Cooper. If I could have anyone to play him... probably be Matthew Daddario from Shadow Hunters.

I wrote it as a very mature RomDramedy, with many physical and inappropriate comedic moments and situations, as a two-season limited series on a streaming platform. The start of the journey to happily ever after.

Writers delusions, but I love this story so much that it may just be a writing sample... I have episodes 102 and 103 and the series bible written and polished. I want to ensure we do them right, which doesn't happen in real life...

Through coverage, I reminded readers of "Dead Like Me," "Awkward," "New Girl," "Easy A," "When Harry Met Sally," "How I met your mother," and "Friends. HAHAHA, I know. It's about two people who seem so different and are the only two who help each other heal their emotional back wounds, similar but the same with an ensemble cast that folds into the fated category.

Despite the quirkiness, these are the people I grew up with. The story of my dad and My Mom meeting is what it's based on. Hating, dating, married in three months, as neighbors, and married for 41 years before my dad passed in 2021.

The theme or construct of the show is Twin Flames... Not everyone knows that, so I try to make it the first thing you see. In the dual journey of self-actualization. Wisdom comes with experience. Not all co-dependent like... I wouldn't say I like that. For me, it's about the depth of character, dialogue, and voice. Growing up, dealing with being who you are, and allowing yourself to feel in the most humiliating ways. I want to tell.

I'm VERBOSE. Please tell me if that makes sense, as I am not wearing my glasses. (It goes over spectacularly on Twitter, let me tell you.) Aren't you glad you asked?

Thanks for asking. That was very kind of you.

Hi @Erin welcome. I love your drawing, by MC do you mean Main Character?

Shellie Schmals

Hi Erin Oliver - so nice to meet you!! I love your approach to creating characters and stories. Also, matching socks are over-rated. :)

Maurice Vaughan

My condolences to you and your family for your dad, Erin Oliver.

Your series sounds really interesting and funny. I would watch it. Lizzy Caplan is a great actress. I can definitely see her in the role of Helena. Do you have a pitch deck? That'll help you pitch your series.

I'm about to head over to Twitter and follow you.

Maria Restivo Glassner

Beautiful drawing, her personality jumps off the screen. Nice to meet you!

Solange Ritchie

Hi Erin. Welcome to Stage 32. Love your drawing. I also write strong female lead characters. My debut novel, THE BURNING MAN, is currently being adapted for film.

Erin Oliver

Maurice Vaughan I watch Now You.See Me 2- where she is particularly hilarious and delivers a younger oceans type of film.- no easy feat with the ensemble cast mates she has. She shines with Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco. I am sure you have seen it. It's cool.being weird.

That makes me happy that you would watch. It. I started fbe pitch deck - allows me to show some of the drawings I've done - But so do series bibles.- I don't know exactly how to present a pitch deck if you only have 3 out of 11 characters “cast” in my head. beginning in 2019, I took 3000 pages of notes which shaped up to be the entire series. It could be a book, but I have two books to finish.

Follow me on twitter just know that it is the one place where I let my liberal mouth flap. Or fingers flying. You've been warned. After. Nov 8 I can fold back into my writing community but uh- I just wish I could sleep for 3 weeks.

Thanks for saying that about my Dad. I think the lessons you learn from losing a parent you were super close to- realizing that your parents are not superheroes because Superheroes never die. The phrase my dad used was “you're going to have to learn how to save yourself.”

despite that he read the vomit draft of the pilot. (given he is the real life former cocky, oversexed playboy.) he loved it! I’m erinloliver on twitter. Don’t use. Facebook.

Cheers

Erin

I like that picture, Erin Oliver (of you and your dad). :)

I think I might've seen some of the first "Now You See Me." I haven't seen "Now You See Me 2."

Let me know what you mean by "I don't know exactly how to present a pitch deck if you only have 3 out of 11 characters “cast” in my head."

I'll look out for your posts on Twitter. I don't use Facebook either.
