I'm working on getting funding for a feature lesbian romance but here is the short proof of concept me and my team did! The Feature is explained just below.
In this one location feature, a playwright locks herself in her apartment with her long time best friend as a “gofer” while she writes a production for Broadway. This friend, an accomplished artist and makeshift performer for the budding scenes, is madly in love with her and doesn’t know how to tell her.
Romance, Dramedy
I tried, but I gave up at 9:13 min. Sorry.
No worries Doug what could I have done better?
Totally understandable, it is just a proof of concept but I do see where you’re coming from
Congratulations on getting your proof of concept in the can Zane Hampton. Onward and upward.

I wasn't hooked by the opening. I kept asking who's the protagonist and what does she want? I should know that she's in demand as a writer and the other is her assistant. I mistakenly thought that they were a couple from the start - where's the conflict? At this point the other girl is a supporting character only. I need to feel the conflict from FADE IN.

I agree with Doug Nelson. Editing is so hard, be it text or film. Also keep in mind that attention spans are super-short. My guess would be that the ideal length for a PoC is 3-5 minutes. The main thing you have to get across is the central conflict and its resolution. We don't need, for example, the phone call about the sale at the beginning, nor lengthy credits that are hard to read because of the typeface used. Stick the credits at the end, in one screen, using a clear, sans-serif face and all-caps.

Process is building slowly! Still gathering more interest on the project which currently hit 12k on YouTube, hoping to be able to shoot this summer 2023!
Zane Hampton - that's great! Excited for you!
