Austin Screenwriting Conference report via Baltimore

Hi, folks. I've been writing like a maniac here in Baltimore and hope your work is going well, too.

About a month ago I attended the Austin Screenwriting Conference for the second year in a row. Great panels, great networking. The latter was easier in hotel bars than in the deafening official venues.

I participated in the pitch contest. The top two pitchers in each preliminary group advanced to the finals. Alas, I did not. But the judges were kind enough to tell me I was a close third. Every bit of encouragement helps.

I continue trying to capitalize on winning this year's Final Draft Big Break Feature Grand Prize. It adds credibility but in no way diminishes the need to hustle via Stage 32 and other ways.

I could whine about not being repped yet. Guess I just did. But let's give thanks we're not in Ukraine. The war of art is challenging but nothing compared to real war.

Best wishes to all.

Congratulations on being close third in the pitch contest, David Page! And big congratulations on winning grand prize at Final Draft Big Break!!! :D

Great to hear that you're not allowing the win to diminish the need to hustle on Stage 32 and other ways. Have you pitched your winning script through Pitch Sessions (https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/pitch-sessions)? I would mention in my pitch that I won grand prize at Final Draft Big Break.

David Page

Thanks, Maurice. And, yes, I do pitch sessions, and I mention that Big Break win. Even when I'm pitching a different script. Cheers, David

You're welcome, David Page. Ok, great! I just read the logline for HEAD GAMES. Wow! When I read it, "sometimes go crazy like humans" really stood out. You might already do this, but I think you should really focus on that in your pitch.

David Page

Hi, Maurice. Sorry for the slow response. Yes, there are tons of movies and pitches about A.I., now more than ever. What makes HEAD GAMES stand out is the idea of a computer shrink. Funny, those two words just popped into my head one day. People say they don't understand exactly how A.I. works. Same goes for the human brain!

David, I lived in Homeland for 2o years (78-98). Now, I live in Annapolis, where I grew up. Still have some family in B-more.
