Good to See Forums Like This

When I got my first screenplay deal, there were no real forums like this. There was no Internet. I lived in Honolulu, and my only avenue into the business was to enter the Nicholl Fellowship through the AMPAS and pray for a win. My prayers came true, and that led to an agent, a sale, etc., but I have to think that it wouldn't have been such a lonely and uncertain road if places like this existed.

Anyway, I'm old now and long ago aged out of the business, but I do celebrate that many of you can connect and learn from one another at Stage 32. I wish everyone the best of luck in pursuing their dreams.

I couldn’t agree more, Robert. Stage 32 is a community and forum that is so important for creatives all over the world right now. Thank you for sharing.

I relate, Robert Gregory Browne. I didn't have a platform like Stage 32 when I started screenwriting. I had a copy of the "Office Space" script and a few screenwriting articles. :) Stage 32 has helped my career tremendously.

Great post Robert - we're lucky to have this community and work everyday to keep nurturing it!

Jed Power

Robert, Thank you. Nice thoughts.

Richard "RB" Botto

Love this post and the perspective within, Robert. You hit upon one of the main reasons I wanted to build this platform in the first place. This journey can be a lonely one and even more so if you don't have a tribe of like-minded people in your circle who can relate and lift you up. I can't tell you how many people have come up to me at festivals, markets, conferences, etc, who have congratulated me on this platform and then follow up with, "But I don't have time to network." Without fail, those are the ones who end up quitting the game the most.

All businesses are tribal, but this one more than any other. Without community and building relationships, you and your material exist in a vacuum.

I think you meant to put "Log line doesn't tell me what happens when they areal together. Like "Money Pit?" on another post, Jed Power.

Beautiful message Robert Gregory Browne and your story is inspiring :) Thank you!

Jed Power

Thanks, Maurice and sorry don'y know how that happened.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Jed Power.

Vicki Rosenthal

Thank you for this, Robert, and congratulations on your success.

Nice post, Robert. It can definitely be lonely having no outlet. My family has no interest in hearing any of it, it's especially heartbreaking to see one of them searing with jealousy over my pursuits. Stage 32 is a huge help. I always hop on here and read up on others before I write. Gives me a sense of connection. Congrats on the Nicholl, very impressive!
