The entire business of screenplay is now focused on a "hook" or a "twist." I think it's time to get back to basics. Those who think "Everything Everywhere All at Once" deserves the Oscar won't agree with me, because I see that film and think this is the result of years of screenwriting classes and sites like this one promoting a "hook" to make your script stand out - even if there is no message behind it. "The Hook" is how MARKETING has disrupted the process of writing a story.
Tell a story - forget the hook.

Hey, Michael Arturo. I think writers need hooks for their scripts to stand out among the thousands and millions of other scripts. It's fun to write a script that has a hook. A writer can have both a hook and a theme/message behind the script.
