Screenwriting : Brand Awareness by Sophie Sherwin

Sophie Sherwin

Brand Awareness

I want to start getting visible to become a writer - to sell my scripts and get writing jobs. I will obviously go down the route of pitching and querying but I also wanted to build myself as a brand. I am thinking of doing a website and social media but how do I showcase my writing? Should I put snippets of my scripts? Write a short? How can I use social media. I want to try to think a little more out of the box. Thanks

Jim Boston

Sophie, you're more than welcome to post your scripts right here on Stage 32.

Other platforms besides Stage 32 include Script Revolution, ISA, Coverfly, InkTip, Blacklist, StoryGo, and Roadmap Writers.

And if you'd like to start your own Website and stick your screenplays/teleplays on it, by all means...go for it.

Glad you're here on Stage 32...all the VERY BEST to you!

I think building yourself as a brand is great, Sophie Sherwin. That's why I made my profile picture and put "HORROR THRILLER" on it.

I've been thinking about making a website to showcase my work, but I'm not sure about making a site. I like posting my scripts and writing samples on my Stage 32 profile because producers, directors, etc. are here. They don't have to leave and go to a website to see my work. Having my work on here is convenient for them.

Use social media to build industry relationships/network, maintain those relationships, and stay up to date about what's going on in the film industry and TV industry.

Website and Social is good. Things posted here and your bio are indexed by google. So make sure they are sharp. Use the same name everywhere. I cannot stress that enough. If you want a career as Sophie Sherwin this is the name that appears everywhere.

As much as everyone talks about social media and other things. People still use Google. So make sure that places you use (if possible) index in Google.

Be consistent. Post regularly and be yourself. After all, they are hiring you, not a persona.

It is very hard and takes a lot of work. But this just assists good writing, it is not a substitute. I know you know that.

I have a Youtube channel, a website, three books about writing on Amazon, I am active on a lot of forums, I have screenplay on places like Script Revolution and I have some short films (and social media). Ask anyone in the industry who I am, they have no idea.

All that effort is in case they look. It will never create the attention. The attention is created by the writing.

Sophie Sherwin it takes time, I have found plenty of devoted Drama writers enjoy using Instagram as a platform to develop a foundation channel on social media,

it can feel a bit challenging at first with the focus on visual images, but I think that screenwriting encourages us to go out and shoot photos, scout locations, or even create a pitch deck using various photos we already have to fulfill our cinematic ideas.

If you are interested, you're welcome to take a look at the Instagram link on my Profile page here on Stage 32,

it includes a recent photo shoot emerging from one of my screenplay projects as a proof-of-concept photo essay, completely different Genre from yours but just an example of a way we can build visual interest for ourselves as writers and hopefully expand that into the beginnings of an audience who can relate to our project.

The thing that you'll have to get into is doing the postings and using several examples of your work again, and again, and again. You've got the passion for it so just start pushing. You could even start with something simple to help yourself get into the habit. Have you done any title cards of your work just to get started?

Clayton Dudzic

By continuing to keep writing your scripts while being on social media is good if you keep from being to distracted. Talking to as many as you can about your passion will increase the exposure to the kind of writer you are.
