Distribution : The Hong Kong Film Festival by Geoff Hall

The Hong Kong Film Festival

I’m trying to go around the world and check out the film festival that may not have a high profile for our American and European members.

Now, as much as I would a film of mine to show at the Berlinale, I think it would be a blast to go to Hong Kong and enjoy the atmosphere there.

“Set to run from March 30 – April 10, the festival will open with the Asian premiere of Soi Cheang’s noir thriller Mad Fate, which recently had its world premiere in the Berlinale. Macau-born Cheang is also honoured as this year’s filmmaker-in-focus. A retrospective of 12 of his films will be showcased, from his 1999 debut film Our Last Day, shot on digital video, horrors Horror Hotline… Big Head Monster and New Blood to Accident and Motorway, both produced by Johnnie To and competed at Venice, and Limbo, which also premiered in the Berlinale.”

HK was fun, sadly I got stuck in meetings and watching the booth too long and didn't get to do any of the cool stuff like see premieres! Haha!

Brandy Spohn - I feel for you! When people always ask me about festivals and markets I always say how unglamorous it is because every moment there is packed in meetings and business. I seem to never get to do much of the cool stuff like watching movies! Would love to learn more about HK - perhaps it's something Stage 32 can get involved with next year. Would love your thoughts on it.
