I recently shared my new showreel within the "introduce yourself " thread, but as suggested by another composer, I thought it could be a good idea to re-share it here for some feedback or discussions to see where I can improve or simply how it does look. from a professional perspective. The first example you can find here is from one of my last projects, Psychedelic Slaughter a horror short I had the opportunity to score last year, founding the job in this community.

Thanks much for sharing this, Federico Gasparini ! This is something that we all need to think about and prepare. I know I need to update mine and I need to work on my Adobe Premiere chops. This is a good thing to discuss here and shine a light on.
We all see and hear things differently, so take these comments lightly. It’s just an opinion and I’ve only watched this reel 3 times, but here are my thoughts:
I would suggest having your opening still with your name on it stay up longer and have it dissolve slower fading into the first clip. If you wanted you could add some music under it that crossfades into your first piece. I might even do a new title page with your name clearer. You have such a great name. It’s nice to read and sound out. It rolls off the tongue. It looks professional all on its own. You put that name in a beautiful font and bingo! Just as a musician, if I see “Federico Gasparini - Composer”…. I’m already scared. That alone will make me watch whatever you put in front of me. You’ve got my attention. I’m thinking ‘Who is this guy!?”
I’d change the order you have things in. Mainly that first clip. For me, it distracts from your music. The color could be better and it looks flat. That could very well be what they were going for, I don’t know. But for YOUR reel I think the others that follow are stronger and a much better presentation for the viewer and for the overall vibe of what it’s like to work with Federico. The music is great on the horror clip though.
The transitions between all of them I think could be slower and smoother with different crossfades. The re-score pieces that you have…those are great. The footage is fantastic as is your music! I’d put them closer to the front rather than the horror of a leg getting chopped off.
Granted, everything I said here I need to do on my own reel!! Lol What a hypocrite, right?!
Federico, you’re a great musician and a breath of fresh air. I hope you and I can have a lot of conversations about what we do and what we love; music.
