Hello! My name is Philip Daniel. I'm a composer, music theorist, poet, and attorney/judicial clerk. You may find my musical compositions at this link: https://www.youtube.com/@PhilipDaniel/playlists
My work traverses a wide range of styles and techniques, from neo-baroque to atonal expressionism, from modal polyphony to classical tonal composition, from serialism to spectralism. No matter what techniques I use, I place great emphasis on melody and harmony as the wellsprings of form. Typically, my work is characterized by a highly chromatic and extended harmonic palette, continuous developmental variation of melodic and motivic material, richly active polyphony, a free construction of phrases more akin to prose than to verse, and subtle refinement of dynamics and articulations. Though largely self-taught, I studied music theory in high school under jazz saxophonist Erin Stroup. My compositions have been featured on podcasts and have inspired visual art.

Nick Waters I'm in the midst of composing a string quartet, of which I've completed the first movement ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fi5KKo6_h4 ). I'm also working on some stylistically experimental orchestral interludes for an apocalypse oratorio ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDfAMgWcjhMZfjcmeG1r4PxMG5OuQSXSE ) and recently completed suites for unusual bowed string instruments (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDfAMgWcjhMZITmn07WNdbrgmF1K4xNIf and https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDfAMgWcjhMYLF2CIW8jQYrhmKDbA7qKg). So I'm quite prolific at any given time, but I try not to allow quantity to overshadow quality.
