The Beauty of Cinema...

Would you guys like to do this and share your rescores in this thread? Looks like we have a week to get it done. Any takers?

Sounds like a great idea, Linwood Bell!

Joanna Karselis

Can't take part myself but great idea Linwood, would love to hear what the community comes up with!

Linwood Bell

Yes... it could be fun. I'll set aside a day this weekend and do something for grins. I'm hoping that a few more members will jump in and we can get some action goin' on in the lounge. :) I grabbed the clip. It looks nice and it's only 2 minutes. It's a clip where almost anything will work so there's no pressure here.

Excited toi see where you can take this, Linwood Bell! Flagging it for my network.

Thank you for posting, Linwood Bell ! I won't be able to join the thread this time, but I will definitely come back to hear the brilliant creations you and our fab community will share!

It’ll be nice if some have the time to participate, but it’s not always easy to find the time to do these types of things. What’s good about it is that you can do whatever you want. You have no one offering any advice or wishes. You are on your own to say whatever it is you want to say; lend the emotion that you feel when you see the image and the pace/delivery of the dialog. No one has any opinion, but you. So just open it up, write, and enjoy the time spent. Share it here. You’re amongst friends.

Wow! Incredible job, @Linwood Bell. Your score's inspiring and comforting. It reminds me of family-friendly movies I watched growing up.

Linwood Bell

Thanks, Maurice!

Allen Lynch

Very elegant score my friend. Nicely done. Wish I had time to contribute.

You're welcome, Linwood Bell.

Great job, Linwood Bell ! Love the "conversation" between strings and piano :)

Linwood Bell

Thanks guys. For the inquiring minds : The piano is the dbl felt grand from Keyscape. The strings are the studio strings from Spitfire. I also added a little of Appasionata on the 1st vlns on the lines. Spitfire harp. The bass is an upright from Trilian. The arp type stuff in the background is maybe 6 different tracks of different patterns made up of parts done with pizz and spic from Abbey Road Two and a few things from Pigments. Halfway through a fender rhodes comes in.

This was a fairly quick one. Thursday night I loaded the clip in and watched and listened to the vo. With flat stock footage and short scenes to work with I tried to come up with a way to decorate it and make it feel like something. I placed markers on things that I wanted to hit. So Friday morning I got on it. The opening starts with a high string fade in as the titles appear and a harp gliss as they disappear. Everything starts at the marquee. Then the eyeball with the tear and the images reflecting. The reflection is where the arps came from. Another harp gliss to decorate “magic” and then bring in some melody. The cop chase scene…a high string line to mimic a siren. A passing chord hits the view out of the train window. A line that ascends leading to the girl in front of the mirror. Then it descends and ends at the action scene. Then there’s a hold; a 5/4 bar that takes us to the girl sitting in the theater watching. High strings lines come in when the dialog is talking about laughing/crying and that takes us home to the girl walking with the bike and the timing of her pace. Maybe a 2 hour mix Saturday morning and bingo. Anywho, that was my thought process. I know this was short notice and it takes time to do these things. Maybe one will pop up that has more than a week deadline and more will be inspired to join in. Everyone one wins doing these because the actual prize is in doing the work.
