Introduce Yourself : I'm not young enough to know everything by Lee Matthias

I'm not young enough to know everything

Hey! I just thought I'd say hello.

I've published a few books and written a few screenplays, and wanted to get to know some of you. I've written several horror and sci-fi scripts, a psychological thriller, and a dark comedy screenplay based on my time as a WGA Signatory agent, and set in the Hollywood of the 1990s during the "spec script boom". Three of my screenplays have been adapted and published as books. I've also written a book on creative idea-generation for screenwriters, LATERAL SCREENWRITING: Using the Power of Lateral Thinking to Write Great Movies, based on a University course I taught.  And I've also published THE LAST REVEAL: Movies, Screenwriting, and the Decline of Western Cinemazation.

Welcome to Stage32, Lee Matthias. You bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the community.

I love the psychological thriller genre. What's the logline for yours? One of my fav from the genre is Christian Bale in THE MACHINIST. Do you have a fav?

Marcel Nault Jr.

Welcome aboard, Lee.

Great to have someone else with experience and wisdom as far as screenwriting goes. I would love to talk to you more. Enjoy your stay!

Robin Gregory

Wonderful to have you here, Lee Matthias . Yikes, you are brave to handle those dark subjects, esp. the Decline of Western Civilization. I look forward to seeing your profile.

Lee Matthias

Thanks, Ty!

The psychological thriller with aspects of the supernatural is OBSESSOR, with the logline:

"When a man comes to a psychiatrist claiming to be pursued by a haunting, erotic woman he believes to be a demon, the psychiatrist investigates and becomes drawn into the man’s pursuit and a maelstrom of obsession and madness." It's an updating of J. Sheridan Le Fanu's 19th Century weird tale, GREEN TEA.

I've toyed with producing and directing it.

As for others in the genre, I like DON'T LOOK NOW, MEMENTO, THE TENANT, THE CONVERSATION, and VERTIGO, among many.

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Lee Matthias. Hope you're doing great. What's your favorite Horror sub-genre to write?

Geoff Hall

Lee Matthias I loved watching The Conversation, Lee. It's a great film.

Lee Matthias

Gift Rogers: You can find my books on Amazon and I have posted links to them on my wall.

By the way, I collect screenplays (mostly digital copies, in PDF format) and have a rather huge collection (30,000+), so if anyone is looking for a script let me know.

Maurice Vaughan

That's generous, Lee Matthias. I'll keep that in mind when I need a script. Thanks.

Gift Rogers

Lee Matthias I love the logline of the obsessor. Can we work on it

Ty Strange

Uohhhhhhhhh! Juicy story, Lee Matthias.

THE CONVERSATION is a fav of mine, too.

Lee Matthias

Well Robin Gregory, it's actually "Cinemazation," a pun, but the book explores how film has changed over the decades a bit, and not always for the better.

Lee Matthias

Maurice Vaughan I like psychological horror the best. There's only "so ugly" or "so big and scary" with monsters and aliens and stuff (though I try to tackle it in my script, FOE, synopsis and book adaptation linked on my wall).

Lee Matthias

Gift Rogers RE: the OBSESSOR logline, do you mean by "work on it" to make it better? Sure, I'm always open, and that one needs to find a way to incorporate the "B" story, as that is not present in the logline at all.

Maurice Vaughan

Cool, Lee Matthias. I've wanted to write a Psychological Horror for a while. What you can't see and can't hear are the scariest things sometimes. And you don't have to add the B Story in a logline. The A Story is usually enough.

Matthew Parvin

Welcome Lee! Nice tomeet you. Glad you're here.

Gift Rogers

Lee Matthias, I mean write a script about it. Meanwhile let's connect on Instagram: instagram.com/realgiftrogers

Wayne Turmel

Nice to meet you, Lee. I've written 6 novels as well as getting back into screenplays a little late in the game.

Lee Matthias

Gift Rogers There's a finished script for all my posted loglines/synopses, including OBSESSOR.

Lee Matthias

Gift Rogers Not currently on Instagram, sorry.
