Script Production

Please help me out! I really want to get my short script: “The Fog in the Sky that Clouded my eyes from the Sun.” Produced as an animation or otherwise but I can’t seem to get that done.

Please share how you got your short scripts produced! Walk me through it step by step because this is really important to me.

Thank you!

I wrote and produced my short myself. I for the first time reached out to crew and cast I knew and asked for help. I did find it myself and the big expenses were the equipment, insurance, food and set decoration. I’m still paying for it! Not having done one on my own before, I made a checklist of who and what I would need and as I gathered crew - starting w the Director of Photography, I learned what equipment we would need. As each person committed to joining up, I’d write down their requests. I did what you are doing now and asking past short film Producer’s how they managed things like insurance. I called SAG-AFTRA to work out what the cast needed to sign. Any unions that might be involved, they will take your calls and help you out if you have questions. Give yourself enough time to line it all up and double check your lists. No matter what, there’s always costs so consider how you’ll raise those funds. And have fun!

If I wasn't a nice person I would advice you to: save money, or if you're not patient, sell your car, morgage your house, sell a kidney, or go into crime; in other words, pay for it yourself. And only then get the knowledge and people to make your dream a reality. But I, like most creatives-- am a nice person that, for just once, used his left brain cells to steal his own money and finance his own short filns ... going bankrupt by doing it!! Still, with hindsight I would do the same thing. Denzel said: "Nothing in life is worth anything unless you take risks.... If I"m going to fall, I don't want to fall back on anything, I want to fall forward."
